Welcome
The Spitzer Large Area Survey with Hyper-Suprime-Cam (SPLASH) combines optical (0.4-1.0μm, Subaru/Hyper-Suprime-Cam) and mid-IR (3.6-4.5μm, Spitzer/IRAC) imaging on two 1.8 square degree fields (COSMOS and SXDS). The total integration time in the mid-IR is 5 hours on SXDS and 6.5 hours on COSMOS. Its large area and unprecedented depth makes it to an essential player in understanding our universe.
The major science enabled by SPLASH includes:
- Investigation of the co-evolution of cosmic large-scale structure, dark matter and the assembly and growth of galaxies and AGN.
- Physics of supernova at high redshifts through transient studies and constraints on the initial mass function.
- Understanding the importance of smooth gas accretion vs. mergers for galaxy growth.
- Probing re-ionization through infrared background fluctuations.
